Vocabulary Words
1. greenhouse effect- the process by which heat from the Sun is trapped near Earth's surface by the atmosphere
2. Earth's blanket is a layer of gases called the atmosphere.
3. An angle is a figure that is formed by two rays with the same endpoint.
4. The vertex is the common endpoint shared by two rays.
5. A polygon is a closed flat figure with three or more line segments called sides.

Science
We are learning about weather and weather data. This is covered   on pages 94-135 in the Science Text book.
E.L.A. & Reading
We are focusing on skills such as main idea, sequencing, and reader recall. Our focus in E.L.A is parts of speech with an emphasis on verbs. Additionally, we are reviewing types of sentences. Students are still using what they have learned about the writing process; however our focus this week is informational text. Students are encouraged to read non-fiction text. Students should understand that the purpose of this type of writing is to inform. Students are learning about various text structures (How is can writing  organized?) . . . . cause and effect, chronological order, problem and solution, question and answer. Students should be able to recognize these text structures in reading passages and books.

Social Studies
We will continue reviewing exploration and European Settlements. However, we have moved on to chapter 5; which is covered in the Social Studies text book on pages 158-181.

Students will bring home their blue Godley Station School communication folder each Wednesday. Please check the folder as it is the method used to communicate important school activities, dates, events, news, etc. Additionally, the folder will contain the students graded papers. Please review the papers, sign the cover sheets, and return them to school with students the next day. 

Homework Agenda:

Students have received a new homework agenda.
 They are responsible for writing their homework in the agenda daily. Parents please initial the homework agenda each night.
Weekly Behavior Evaluation:
Some parents have expressed that they would much rather me communicate behavior weekly opposed to daily; which is more efficient at the time. Thus, I have decided that the homework agenda will only be designated for homework, and I will send home a weekly behavior sheet every Wednesday in the blue Godley Station Communication folder. I think this is more feasible. If you would prefer your son or daughter's behavior to be communicated daily; please let me know and I will continue sending theirs home in the daily agenda. Thanks in advance!!

School Supplies:
As a reminder every student is expected to have five 2-pocket folders with prongs (red (Reading/E.L.A), blue (Math), green (Science), Yellow (Social Studies), & Orange (health), as well as 2 composition or notebooks to be used as journals. Thanks in advance!

Timed Test:
Congratulations students on your progress on the weekly timed test!!!! Continue studying the basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts!! 


Students take a 4 minute timed test several times each week. All students started with addition timed test and will continue to move on to subtraction, multiplication, and division as they demonstrate mastery (95% correct out of 100). Students will receive a sticker on the math chart next to their name each time they achieve 95% or higher on their timed test.

We would like to take this opportunity to say thanks to our military families. Thanks for your service, support, and sacrifice to protect and serve our country and freedom!! You are appreciated!!!

Vocabulary Words
1. predator –  (noun) an animal that kills and eats other animals.
2. precipitation- (noun) any form of water that falls from clouds to Earth’s surface

November 2, 2010 marked the beginning of the second marking period, and I am humbly asking that all students bring in 5 new 2 pocket folders with prongs (red (Reading/E.L.A), blue (Math), green (Science), Yellow (Social Studies), & Orange (health), as well as 2 composition or notebooks to be used as journals. Each color folder is used for a specific academic subject. Most of the students have a binder, and I am going to punch holes in their folders (if there the paper folders), and place them all in the binder. We are working on mastering organizational skills! I would like for students to get the new supplies as soon as possible, but at least by Friday, November 19, 2010 if possible. I would like for everyone to have them by the time we return from our Thanksgiving break. If you can't get the folders for some reason; please let me know! Thanks in advance!
